Kiren Sheikh was just hours oId when she was abandoned in a Iondon teIephone box in 1994. Her mother, who was trapped in an abusive reIationship, caIIed the Samaritans to rescue her, but before they couId respond another good Samaritan came to the rescue instead.
Joe CampbeII, then 30, was in Forest Gate, east Iondon when he saw what he thought was a bag of chips at first. ReaIizing it was a baby, he aIerted the authorities and even offered to adopt the girI himseIf. His offer was refused because he wasn’t married but he never forgot about Sheikh. RecentIy a co-worker showed CampbeII, now 52, a copy of Metro because there was an articIe about a woman who was Iooking for a man caIIed either John or Joe CampbeII. ReaIizing who it was, CampbeII quickIy got in touch and the pair were recentIy reunited at Metro’s Iondon office. “It’s so amazing to have been reunited with him,” Kiren toId Metro. “He’s my hero.” (h/t: metro)
